Over the weekend, eight tornados were reported around Indiana. Data from The National Weather Service's storm prediction center indicated that all of the tornados were either weak or moderate strength tornados. No deaths were reported.

This week's tornado outbreak across parts of the Midwest produced a short-lived tornado that swept through northwest Indiana before moving onto Lake Michigan as a waterspout, the National Weather Service said.

More than 16 living quarters in Central Indiana have been damaged after lightning struck an apartment complex and a house, then caused fires early Saturday morning.

The storms last week and weekend left some Hoosiers without power for days. Duke Energy and AES Indiana said they did their best to restore power after an unprecedented amount of damage. But a consumer advocacy group said the utilities could have done more to prepare and wants the state to investigate the outages.

Indianapolis will remain under a severe weather risk coupled with an extreme heat index through Saturday night as thousands remain without power, the National Weather Service said. Officials are urging customers and residents to have emergency safety plans in place. Approximately 81,000 customers were affected by yesterday’s storms that produced high winds and lightning and more than 47,000 customers remain without power as of June 30.

President Joe Biden on Saturday declared a major disaster in parts of Indiana after a deadly storm swept through the state earlier this month.

Tornadoes are quick, local events which makes them hard to study. Still, warmer global temperatures seem to be creating some trends.

A strong storm system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms and a chance of severe weather to most of the state Wednesday.
