Q&A

What do you consider the two most important issues facing Hoosiers who will see your name on their ballot this November? And if elected, what policies will you push for to address each one?

1. Inflation due to the destructive economic policies of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.*
2. Public safety and this misguided effort by Democrats to defund the police.**

*Editor’s note: This is an ongoing debate. While some lawmakers say government spending is behind rising inflation rates, the Chair of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell disagrees. The New York Times reported that he disputed those claims in congressional testimony and in a press conference. To read more about inflation, you can check this reporting from NPR: The debate over what’s causing inflation, The mystery of Inflation (2022) and Everything you always wanted to know about inflation (but were afraid to ask).

**Editor’s note: There is ongoing disagreement over what support for police looks like and what “defund the police” means. For more context on this issue, check out this reporting by NPR: Police didn’t get defunded but many large departments are shrinking.

We've heard from many in our audience that they feel frustrated — sometimes disenfranchised — by our current political landscape. These feelings sometimes contribute to people deciding not to vote, and Indiana consistently ranks near the bottom of the list on voter turnout. What would you say to a potential voter who feels this way?

The greatness of the American Experiment and our beautiful Republic depends on an educated and engaged citizenry. At the very basic level, the right to vote is the foundation of our duty and I encourage everyone to vote as it’s your chance to speak on the issues that matter most to you.

Economic anxiety is top of mind for many in our audience and around the country, with a common concern being inflation and the high price of basic needs. In all the complexity around economic issues, what specific changes need to happen to help Hoosiers and their families?

Hoosier wages have lagged behind the Biden/Harris inflation crisis.***

The greatest way to overcome the economic pressures of this inflation crisis are for Hoosiers to have jobs that raise wages and a tax structure that gives individuals more power over their money than the government. Specifically, I will be working alongside Mike Braun and the General Assembly to fight for property tax relief for Hoosiers all across our great state.

***Editor’s note: According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Indiana residents saw weekly wages increase by around 5.1% in March 2024 compared to March 2023. Inflation increased by 3.5% during that period.

Q&A

What do you consider the two most important issues facing Hoosiers who will see your name on their ballot this November? And if elected, what policies will you push for to address each one?

1. High Property Taxes: Abolish property taxes (Residential & family farms) which is a heavy financial burden and replace with a 7% sales tax which can be paid at 1% per year for seven years and can also be escrowed.  Work with the General Assembly to amend the State Constitution to establish a true 1% cap of purchase price or assessed value (whichever is less).

2. Decriminalize cannabis including recreational marijuana.  We should take the sales tax being spent on these products in other states and bring the money to Indiana.

The 2-Party system is broken and never intended by our founding fathers.  The People should consider Libertarians and other 3rd party candidates in Indiana especially at the top office, Rainwater for Governor.  We need to reinforce the principles of Liberty to all voters.

Economic anxiety is top of mind for many in our audience and around the country, with a common concern being inflation and the high price of basic needs. In all the complexity around economic issues, what specific changes need to happen to help Hoosiers and their families?

Freeze the State budget then reduce spending and reform our tax code, so Hoosiers have more of their own money to spend.  Libertarians stand for 'free market principles' where big government gets out of the way of the economical process.
