Q&A
What do you consider the two most important issues facing Hoosiers who will see your name on their ballot this November? And if elected, what policies will you push for to address each one?
Slowing the growth of property taxes and making sure we have the necessary capacity to generate power to our grid for industrial and residential consumption.
Policies that increase supply, reduce demand and protect the grid are very important and not widely discussed.
We've heard from many in our audience that they feel frustrated — sometimes disenfranchised — by our current political landscape. These feelings sometimes contribute to people deciding not to vote, and Indiana consistently ranks near the bottom of the list on voter turnout. What would you say to a potential voter who feels this way?
In the past fifteen years Indiana has expanded opportunities to vote across the state. All 92 counites have secure vote centers with expanded hours to vote early and increased opportunities to vote absentee securely via mail.*
Voting is safe secure and accurately counted in Indiana. Voters should not listen to anyone who claims their vote does not matter or count, it does!
*Editor's note: Voting access is an ongoing debate in Indiana. Sixty-five Indiana counties adopted the use of vote centers, where residents can vote at any polling place in the county on Election Day. 2011 state legislation allowed for use of vote centers. Vote centers have the same hours as all polling places on Election Day. There are also calls for more expanded hours and an increase in access to absentee voting opportunities. Here is a conversation about the debate, from Indiana Lawmakers.
Economic anxiety is top of mind for many in our audience and around the country, with a common concern being inflation and the high price of basic needs. In all the complexity around economic issues, what specific changes need to happen to help Hoosiers and their families?
Indiana needs to continue using technologies to reduce expenditures and operate government efficiently to lessen the tax burden on Hoosiers.
We need to improve our fifteenth national affordability ranking as reported in US. News and World Report by growing our economic activity and educational opportunities.
