With winter quickly approaching, local homelessness organizations and partners are trying to figure out how they’re going to provide added shelter for those who need it.

The Bloomington Wheeler Mission Shelter announced earlier this month it will stop shelter services for women starting Sept. 1.

Once the expansion project is completed, the Center will include increased housing, a secure child care center and expanded on-site medical clinics.

Wheeler Mission says the number of women and children sleeping on the floor of the gymnasium at the Center for Women & Children has more than doubled since last January.
