One of Indianas methods to purge voter rolls will remain shut down after a federal appeals court decision Tuesday.

Federal law requires the state to regularly clean up its voter rolls ensuring people who have moved or died, for instance, are either removed or have their information updated.

The postcards from the Secretary of State's Election Division remind voters that Nov. 5 is Election Day, but they're also being used to revise Indiana's statewide voter list.

The suit emphasizes that Indiana lacks any rules or standards to determine whether a signature is genuine.

To vote, you must be 18 years old as of Nov. 6, a U.S. citizen, not currently in prison or convicted of a crime and live in the precinct where you vote for at least 30 days prior to the election.

To be eligible to register to vote, residents must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by Election Day, reside in their precinct for at least 30 days before the election; and not currently imprisoned after being convicted of a crime.

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson is advising Hoosiers disregard the letters.

The Secretary of State's office says voters who text "Indiana" to 2VOTE, or 28683, will receive a link to the Indianavoters.com website.

Elections Study Committee Chair Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) says he will draft a bill next session to allow a person to register and vote on Election Day.

The legal action was brought on behalf of Indiana's NAACP and the League of Women Voters.
