House Republicans voted Monday to further restrict when Hoosiers can vote by mail.

Federal courts won't expand vote-by-mail in Indiana any time soon after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear a case on the issue Tuesday.

A House committee dramatically scaled back a controversial bill Thursday that would have imposed new voter identification requirements on absentee ballot applications.

Under proposed legislation Hoosier voters would have to include either their driver's license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number when they apply for an absentee ballot.

One of Indiana's most prominent corporations is criticizing an Indiana proposal that opponents maintain will make mail-in voting more difficult by requiring voters to submit identification numbers with their ballot applications.

Attorneys for the advocacy group Indiana Vote By Mail argue in the petition filed Friday that the state law allowing no-excuse mail balloting by those ages 65 and older infringes on the constitutional rights of those younger.

A group of Hoosiers who are blind say Indiana's vote-by-mail system doesn't allow them to vote privately and independently at home. And they're suing the state over it.

More than 560,000 Hoosiers requested mail-in ballots for the November election -- a record for Indiana. And more than 460,000 of those ballots were returned.

Despite Republicans' refusal to expand the state's vote-by-mail system during the pandemic, many voters can still cast their vote by mail.

Hoosiers who want to vote by mail in the upcoming election and have a legal reason to do so have just a few days left to request their mail-in ballot.
