An estimated 700,000 Hoosiers participated in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, last year.

The ban includes any conviction of Schedule 1 drug offense, for example: cocaine, marijuana, opioids, and LSD.

The federal government-which pays for SNAP benefits, sometimes called food stamps-says such assistance can only go to households that have less than $2,250 in assets, but states can opt out of that requirement.
