A bill that would jail and fine people sleeping on state property passed out of committee Monday. The legislation is moving forward for a full House vote despite over a dozen community members testifying in opposition.

A new House bill in Indiana would make it illegal for people who are homeless to sleep outside.

The city decided to open the school in December for families experiencing homelessness following warnings from Wheeler Mission that it would not be able to accommodate families this winter.
