A man was seriously injured after being shot by an off-duty police officer during an overnight bar fight in the Indianapolis area, authorities said Monday.

Carmel police said they are investigating the shooting at the request of the Noblesville Police Department "in order to ensure impartiality."

A 21-year-old Indianapolis man faced attempted murder and other preliminary charges after a flurry of activity Sarurday that allegedly involved him shooting two people, hitting a person with his car and leading police on a chase that ended in a shootout that injured him and an officer.

Attorneys for the family of Dreasjon Reed spoke out Saturday on a grand jury's decision not to indict the IMPD officer who shot and killed the 21-year old. Following the virtual press conference protests continued in IMPD's Northwest District.

A six person grand jury will determine whether or not to indict IMPD Officer Dejoure Mercer, who fatally shot Dreasjon Reed on May 6.
