One piece of a project to revitalize an entire city block will unearth the Indianapolis catacombs.

The Original Farmers Market kicked off Wednesday on Monument Circle. The market moved to the location because of renovations at the City Market.

The Indianapolis City Market is set to close for renovations Friday. The historic market will not reopen until 2026, as the entire city block prepares for redevelopment.

The S.O.U.L. (Supporting Our Unique Locals) of the City Kitchen Incubator program offers four entrepreneurs booth space at the historic Indianapolis City Market.

The historic City Market will remain unchanged, the Gold Building will receive an overhaul, and a new mixed-use apartment building will replace City Market East.

The city of Indianapolis put out requests for proposals for City Market east and Jail II sites last week.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett announced Friday that the city has offered a two-month rent deferral for all tenants in the main hall of City Market. The city is the owner of the historic property, which is home to more than two dozen small businesses.
