Thomas Wolfe & "Forgotten" Writers

This weekend Indianapolis will host the annual convention of the Thomas Wolfe Society, which honors the life and works of the early 20th century American author. The Crossroads of America is where Wolfe arrived on the Southwestern Limited on his way to Purdue University to deliver his 1938 "Writing and Living" lecture. Today on No Limits, we'll discuss Wolfe, the loss of so-called "forgotten writers," and fans who don't forget after all.
State-Funded Preschool

Indiana has lagged behind most other states when it comes to providing any type of state-funded preschool. A five-county pilot program that provides funding for children of low income families to attend quality Pre-K has seen such an overwhelming demand for enrollment that supporters say it's time for the state to move to a full fledged program.

Plus an important update on the status of the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library, after plans to move to a new location were halted.

Indiana Landmarks just awarded the Cook Cup for Historic Preservation this past weekend, while also releasing its annual list of the 10 Most Endangered places. Plus, the iconic German church of German Church Road was thought to be saved - but now faces a Thursday deadline to beat the wrecking ball.

This weekend Reverend Baskerville-Burroughs will be ordained as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, the Episcopal Church in central and southern Indiana. Baskerville-Burrows is the first black woman in the Episcopal Church's history elected to lead a diocese.

General Assembly Issues: Cigarette Tax and Solar Net Metering

For the first half hour, discussing the proposed cigarette tax. Show guests are Monique French of the American Lung Association's "Raise It for Health" campaign and Rep. Ed Clere, R - New Alabany. The second half hour focuses on solar net metering, specifically rolling back the credits of homeowners and others with solar to near-wholesale rates rather than the current retail credit they currently enjoy. Kennedy King Memorial Initiative

April 4, 2017 marked the 49th anniversary of Robert Kennedy's powerful speech to an Indianapolis crowd on the assassination of Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As of April 2017, major plans are underway for the memorial park for the 50th anniversary of the speech. Joining the show as guests will be Amy DiStaulo, Executive Director, Kennedy King Memorial Initiative (KKMI); Billie Breaux, Marion Co Auditor and former Indiana State Senator; and Jim Trulock. Billie and Jim attended Kennedy's speech.
