Interstate 70 on Indianapolis' east side was closed Thursday after a semi tanker trailer hauling fuel overturned and caught fire.
The accident initially forced the closure of I-70 in both directions at I-465, but the westbound lanes were reopened after the fire was put out.
The eastbound lanes and the I-465 ramp to I-70 eastbound remain closed as crews worked to clean up the wreckage and assess the roadway for damage. INDOT expects that process to last through the evening rush hour, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
