Yorktown Community Schools Superintendent Jennifer McCormick has entered the 2016 state superintendent's race on the Republican side. She says Glenda Ritz's education department is disorganized and disconnected from schools.

From October to December, Young raised $749,163 - the second-highest total ever for a non-incumbent senator in Indiana for an off-year, according to Young's campaign manager, Trevor Foughty.

Only 30 percent of registered voters in Indiana went to the polls in the 2014 general election, the worst turnout percentage in the Hoosier State's recorded history.

The midterms marked a drubbing for Democrats. Republicans picked up at least seven Senate seats, wresting control of the chamber and setting up a divided government for at least the next two years.

The incumbent Democrat will be back in the Indiana House after a close race and a political advertisement that caused some controversy.

Voters reelected seven Republicans and two Democrats to the U.S. House. Neither of the state's Senate seats was on the ballot.
