Macer Wins After Controversial Mailer

Macer Wins After Controversial Mailer

Incumbent Democrat Rep. Karlee Macer will return to the Indiana House of Representatives after defeating Republican candidate Bradford Moulton in District 92 Tuesday night.

Both candidates emphasized jobs and education on the trail, but the race took an ugly turn after political advertisement was sent out a week before the elections.  The large glossy mailer showed a pair of hands in handcuffs and asked voters if they had met Karlee Macer’s opponent.

Macer faced two opponents – Moulton and Independent John Couch, who has been in the Marion County Jail since being arrested Oct. 9. Moulton called foul on the ad.

"I feel like it’s the Democratic party trying to cause voter confusion in an attempt to get her re-elected," says Moulton.

Marion County Democratic Chairman Joel Miller, who sent out the political ad says it was not misleading.

“The candidate has been arrested and incarcerated and that’s what I said.  I identified him, his name, four times even putting a copy of his most recent public arrest on the piece,” says Miller.

Macer has said that she didn’t know about the mailer and didn’t authorize it.

Couch has been charged with stalking Macer, impersonating a public servant and resisting arrest.  He remained on the ballot and received 3 percent of the vote.  Indiana law says the ballots are locked in 90 days prior to elections.
