The Indiana Department of Transportation will keep a portion of eastbound Interstate 70 closed until emergency repairs can be made.

INDOT says the eastbound lanes of I-70 are currently closed between Mt. Comfort Rd (Exit 96) and State Road 109 at Knightstown. All lanes will remain closed until Monday, Sept. 16 at 6 a.m.

For the duration of the closure, drivers should take Mt. Comfort Road to U.S. 40 eastbound to State Road 109 back to I-70.

The shoulder of the eastbound I-70 lane was damaged by heavy traffic after the lane restrictions on began last week in the area. Contractors will be out repairing and paving the shoulder during the closure.

INDOT says it was forced to do the complete closure because the right lane on I-70 east was already part of an ongoing construction patching project.

Indiana State Police will assist with traffic for the duration of the closure.
