POSITION DESCRIPTION 

JOB TITLE: Intern, Human Resources 

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, Non-exempt, Hourly

LOCATION: Indianapolis, IN 

START DATE: 09/09/2024

The Human Resource Intern will assist with human resource activities for WFYI. Intern will work closely with the HR (Human Resources) for a hands-on learning experience. 

The WFYI internship program provides participants with robust experiences to use their existing skills and to add new skills to their portfolios. Internships are available throughout the organization and offer additional opportunities for exploration and access to other departments beyond the assignment, as well as professional development. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acquire skills in developing a recruitment, onboarding and offboarding process
  • Aid in training of new Human Resource Information System (HRIS) auxiliary services
  • Discover various communication tools in speaking with employees
  • Assist with various benefit related tasks and be a partner with open enrollment
  • Learn about the company’s HR policies, employee benefits, and other HR-related information to be able to help in responding to employee requests
  • Complete one HR related project during internship
  • Attend weekly HR meetings and others that may be required from time to time
  • Shadow the HR team with our IDE initiative work with the organization 
  • Gain an understanding of payroll and budget systems
  • Participate in process and workflow creation and updates in HR
  • Attend and represent WFYI with the HR team at a career fair
  • Learn to create HR-related reports in payroll, recruitment, and metrics
  • Aid in the conversion of employee records from paper to electronic following compliance regulations

Other Functions:

  • Performs other duties/projects as assigned 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience unless otherwise noted below.

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resources, employment law, or related field and/or equivalent experience.
