Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding made his announcement outside the Evansville business of major Republican donor Steve Chancellor with Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch in attendance.

Sen. Jim Merritt said in a statement he would resign Nov. 4 from the seat to which he was first elected in 1990.
