The Indy Arts Council and the WNBA All-Star 2025 Host Committee are commissioning a mural of Catchings, the Indiana Fever icon. It’s expected to be unveiled this summer as Indianapolis hosts the WNBA All-Star Game, July 18-19.
Catchings played her entire 16-year WNBA career with the Fever, earning four Olympic gold medals and leading the team to its first championship in 2012. Today, she’s a business owner of three Teas Me cafes in the city and co-chair of the city’s All-Star host committee.
Four artists have submitted designs for the mural, to be painted on the side of a building near Massachusetts Avenue and Michigan Street.
“This tribute isn’t just about me; it’s about the power of perseverance, teamwork, and believing in something bigger than yourself,” Catchings said in a statement. “I hope this mural will serve as a daily reminder that with hard work and heart, anything is possible."
An opinion poll to weigh in on mural submissions will run through April 13 — you can give feedback here.
The artists are:
- Aziza Andre — Atlanta, GA
- Nate Baranowski — South Bend, IN
- Lula Goce, Galicia — Spain
- Desiree Kelly — Detroit, MI
The mural is funded by a grant from the Marion County Capital Improvement Board. Indy Arts Council will own and maintain the mural, which is anticipated to remain in place at least 15 years, according to the organization.
