Storms Cause Scattered Damage Around Indiana

PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) — Strong thunderstorms that moved across Indiana caused scattered damage and knocked out electricity to thousands of homes and businesses.

The National Weather Service reported wind and hail damage in several parts of Indiana from Sunday's storms, with the most-concentrated damage in the state's northwest corner.

Major utility companies reported about 10,000 outages remained early Monday in northern Indiana. The most were in Porter and Lake counties.

The weather service recorded a 78 mph wind gust at the Gary airport as numerous trees were blown down in the area. An unconfirmed tornado was reported in a rural area near Rensselaer but no damage was immediately reported.

Meanwhile, Vectren says fewer than 100 outages remained in the Evansville area from a Friday evening storm that caused some 50,000 outages amid widespread damage.
