Spring Mill State Park Inn will be closing next week for renovations

Starting next week Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell will close its inn for renovations. The renovations are set to start Nov. 19 and end in 2024.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the 73-room inn is structurally safe but needs maintenance work that requires it to be closed.

“Complete closure of one of our most iconic Indiana State Park inns for more than a year is a difficult decision,” DNR Director Dan Bortner said. “However, the modernization of the inn’s ‘behind the scenes’ safety and comfort systems is best accomplished with this approach.”

The DNR says the goal of the project is to modernize the mechanics like water lines and HVAC while keeping the historic, natural look and feel of the building. The inn opened in 1939 and still looks it.

All employees of the inn will remain employed but will be located in other areas of the park.

Other facilities like trails, activity center and the Gus Grissom Memorial will remain open.

Caitlin Clark rallies Fever past Liberty 83-78 with first triple-double by WNBA rookie

Caitlin Clark posted the first triple-double by a rookie in WNBA history to rally Indiana to an 83-78 victory over New York on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, snapping the Fever's nine-game losing streak to the Liberty. Clark finished with 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds for Indiana (9-13). Aliyah Boston finished with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting and had eight rebounds for the Fever. Sabrina Ionescu scored 22 to lead New York, which had won five straight games. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added 20 points, Clark, the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, was one rebound shy of a triple-double two games ago in an 88-82 road victory over the Phoenix Mercury.

Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese headline WNBA All-Star team that will face US Olympic squad

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will team up on the WNBA All-Star team to play against the U.S. Olympic team led by A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart. The pair of remarkable rookies were selected Tuesday by a combination of votes from the media, fans, players and the league’s 12 coaches to play in Phoenix on July 20. Clark was the leading vote-getter from the fans with her Indiana teammate Aliyah Boston finishing second. Reese was fifth. Joining the rookies on the WNBA team were DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones of Connecticut, Allisha Gray of Atlanta, Dearica Hamby of Los Angeles, Jonquel Jones of New York, Kayla McBride of Minnesota, Kelsey Mitchell of Indiana, Nneka Ogwumike of Seattle and Arike Ogunbowale of Dallas.
