BlueIndy, the city’s electric car-sharing program, announced it will cease operations next year. The company alerted members in an email today Friday, citing financial reasons.

In a statement from Indianapolis, Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Schaffer says the city is committed to improving transportation access and “connectivity for all Marion County residents.”

“Over the coming months, we will work with neighbors, corporate partners, and personal mobility advocates to explore whether financially-sustainable options exist to put the electric charging infrastructure to use,” Shaffer said.

The service was launched in 2015 under Mayor Greg Ballard’s administration. In a post on the website, BlueIndy sets an end date of May 21.
