Indianapolis has a new director of Parks and Recreation.

Phyllis Boyd comes to the top position at Indy Parks from the nonprofit sector, where she served as Executive Director of Groundwork Indy.  The organization involves youth in environmental community projects.

Boyd has also worked in urban planning and landscape architecture. She has worked with Indy Parks on planning on improvement projects.  Most recently she helped with design and outreach for the Riverside adventure park project.

In a written statement Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett welcomed Boyd. “With a number of major park improvements and facility upgrades slated for the coming years," Hogsett said, "I look forward to working with Phyllis to enhance public greenspaces throughout Indianapolis and tighten the bonds between Parks and our neighborhoods.”

Former director Linda Broadfoot announced she would leave the post this past summer.
