File Photo / WFYIA new effort to strengthen public safety in Indianapolis is in the works. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recently announced it will develop a 5-year strategic plan.
IMPD officials say the goal is to establish a clear vision to better respond to the evolving safety needs of the community and its officers. The effort aligns with department goals to be more transparent.
IMPD partnered with Taylor Advising, a locally owned consulting company, to develop the plan.
“This plan will be shaped by the voices of those who know our department and city best - our officers, professional staff, and the community we serve,” Police Chief Chris Bailey said in a statement.
Taylor Advising will facilitate discussions with several focus groups and host meetings about the strategic plan. Marion county residents are invited to submit feedback on public safety concerns and the future of the department by filling out an anonymous survey.
The first draft of IMPD’s plan will be available for public review and comment in November.
Officials expect the final plan to be released in January 2026 and the implementation will happen soon after.
