One of Indiana’s biggest interchanges is marking construction milestones. Clear Path 465, a project that began in 2022, aims to make the I-465 and I-69 highways and interchanges safer. It will also alleviate congestion for drivers on the busy north east side where 100,000 vehicles travel through on an average day.
INDOT Strategic Communications Director Natalie Garrett said they are on track to finish most of the major construction this year.
“We have new travel lanes that open on northbound, 465, new bridges on westbound, 465, 82nd Street ramps open, which was a huge milestone for the project,” Garrett said.
By fall 2025, it is anticipated that there will be a new bridge and ramp from northbound I-465 to northbound I-69 along with new pavement. Garrett says other long-term closures involved in the project will end this year.
“It’s been a long construction project, we are just as excited to get this project wrapped up, to provide safer, more efficient travel for residents here on the northeast side,” Garrett said.
The estimated $471 million project is funded by both federal and state transportation funds and includes a $70 million grant awarded in 2021.
