The Indianapolis group GANGGANG says it has generated over $13 million in revenue and invested nearly $8 million into the creative economy over the past four years.

The cultural development group presented its findings during its inaugural ‘State of The Culture’ event at the Kan-Kan Cinema and Restaurant. It used videos, live music, photographs and a panel discussion to highlight its impact on Indianapolis’ local economy and culture.

“While the world shifts… culture persists,” said Mali Bacon, co-founder and creative director of GANGGANG. “Here we are persisting through what has been an incredible roller coaster.”

Since its inception in 2020, GANGGANG has hosted several events to uplift and support more than 1,000 Black artists in the community. The BUTTER Fine Arts Fair, the group's most notable event, has sold more than $900,000 in artists’ work since it started.

Last year, the organization held a pop-up art exhibit during NBA All-Star Weekend and created the ‘I Made Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival’ — a one-day music festival celebrating the origins of the rock genre.

Bacon emphasized the need for continued work in the local creative industry, especially in the wake of anti-DEI legislation that threatens funding for local arts initiatives.

“We are here to remind places and people of who they are,” Bacon said. “Cities rely on culture, and so it requires and it deserves infrastructure.”

GANGGANG announced several collaborations with organizations, including the Madam Walker Legacy Center and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, to further elevate Black culture and create equitable development in Indianapolis.

Officials with the group also announced the ‘I Made Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival’ will return in May 2026.
