The Indiana Department of Transportation says drivers should be alert for lane closures this week as construction crews shift traffic patterns at the I-465 and I-65 interchange south of downtown Indianapolis.

Both directions of I-65 and I-465 will be reduced to one lane beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, while workers adjust lane markings through the work zone.

Three lanes of I-65 North wil be shifted onto the final two new bridges and eliminate the median crossover that has been in place during northbound bridge construction. INDOT says all three lanes of I-65 North are expected to be open on their permanent alignment before noon Wednesday.

Two lanes of I-65 South will remain shifted to the right to allow crews to remove temporary pavement from the median after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

INDOT says drivers should plan for overnight lane closures on I-65 and I-465 between midnight and 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27 and repeating between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night next week.

I-65 South is scheduled to open to three lanes and the I-465 ramps to I-65 North are scheduled to open before the end of November, weather permitting.

The I-65 and I-465 speed limits are reduced to 55 mph through the work zone and further reduced to 45 mph when lights are flashing. Drivers are urged to abide by speed limits and avoid distractions for everyone's safety.
