Court officials prepare to move from downtown to new Community Justice Campus

Court officials are preparing to move the Marion County courts from the City-County Building in downtown Indianapolis to the new Community Justice Campus on the city’s southeast side.

The moving process will begin on April 19 and full operations at the new facility will start on May 9.

The move was originally slated to begin in February. During a media tour of the new facilities earlier this month, Marion County Presiding Judge Amy Jones said the pandemic caused delays, from staff getting sick to long shipping times for new equipment.

“Just working through the staffing challenges of people being sick, those were things that all played a factor,” Jones said. “But I think we’re in a good place now.”

In addition to the courthouse, the campus includes a new jail and a mental health and substance abuse treatment center.

Operations at the new jail began in January. Like the courts, sheriff’s staff faced delays in essential technology and had to push back their opening date.

A new juvenile justice center will open at a later date.
