Broad Ripple under construction for infrastructure improvements

Broad Ripple Avenue will be under major construction this year.

The $6.73 million project will fund infrastructure improvements, such as new storm pipes, manholes and curb inlets, from College to Primrose avenues and include a new "River Walk" that will connect Broad Ripple Park to the Monon Trail. 

The project, which is a joint partnership between the Department of Public Works and the Broad Ripple Village Association, will also include 2.9 lane miles of asphalt street rehabilitation and 2,500 linear feet of sidewalk rehabilitation.

“We are utilizing the need for them to tear up the roads to redo the roads obviously; redo the pavement of the roads, widening the sidewalks,” Broad Ripple Village Association Executive Director Jordan Dillion said.

Dillion said the construction will present challenges, but they are working with the city to address any issues with traffic.

“We hope our community in Broad Ripple and surrounding communities will not see this construction as a sign to stay away from the village, but instead an opportunity to come here and support our businesses during that time,” Dillion said.

Utility relocation began Monday and will last approximately four months. 

Construction on the bridge over the canal north of the intersection of College and Broad Ripple avenues is expected to begin in early April.

Future closures, including a large portion of Broad Ripple Avenue, are planned.

Anticipated completion is late summer or early fall.
