A bridge on Kessler Boulevard over White River undergoing major renovations is nearing completion.
Indianapolis Department of Public Works Deputy Director of Engineering Ericka Miller said there will be many infrastructure improvements.
“There will remain four travel lanes across the bridge as there used to be, but we will be adding a sidewalk on the south side of the bridge and widening the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge to seven feet,” Miller said. “We will also be installing ABA compliant curb ramps, pedestrian railing, and decorative lighting.”
Miller said the project marks the first significant work on the structure in decades.
“The bridge was originally built in 1957 and the last rehabilitation on the infrastructure was in 1995,” Miller said.
The $7.5 million rehabilitation started last year and is expected to be complete in October.
