For the third year in a row, WFYI Public Media received a Regional Emmy Award for Overall Station Excellence at the 46th Annual Emmy Awards of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Lower Great Lakes chapter, held in Indianapolis on Saturday, June 27. WFYI is the only station in the three-state region (Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania) to achieve this honor for three consecutive years.
In addition to this prestigious award, WFYI also received 10 Emmys for a wide array of productions and collaborations by the station and its partners, including four Emmy awards for "Bobby 'Slick' Leonard: Heart of a Hoosier," in collaboration with Ted Green Films; Best Special Event Coverage for "Time for Three Live with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra"; and Best Historical/Cultural entry for "Strange Fruit," produced in collaboration with the SALT Project.
“While it takes many ingredients to make successful and meaningful productions such as these winners, it mostly comes down to the work of talented teams, and we have many talented people connected to WFYI Public Media,” said Lloyd Wright, WFYI’s president and CEO. “We are proud of all those who were nominated for Emmys, and look forward to another creative year.”
Additional winners include a short arts feature called "Monumental Canvas"; a lifestyle documentary on the Michigan wine industry, "Location, Location, Location"; and a promotional piece called "Gear Going Global". A full list of winners is available here.
This year’s 11 Emmy-wins is a record high for WFYI.
