WFYI is powered by everyday people with a commitment to trusted journalism, inspiring stories and lifelong learning. We love serving our community as public media professionals, and also love taking you behind the scenes of WFYI's headquarters. Today, meet Doug Jaggers, WFYI's Daily and Digital Editor on our News team.
What does your work usually entail?
As the daily editor, I help map out WFYI’s daily news coverage and edit with the reporters for radio newscasts and the website. I work with the policy desk as the digital editor, creating visuals for and copy editing the digital feature stories. And I curate digital news content on the website and social media.
Do you have any advice for people following in your footsteps?
During an interview early in my career, a legendary basketball coach told me, “it’s the little things that make the big things happen.” I believe that applies in the newsroom. Don't shrug off the little things that need to be done day in, day out. They are the foundation for success.
What do you enjoy most about working with WFYI?
Education and journalism have always been important in my family — my parents are retired educators, and I got my first newspaper job at 16. It’s incredible to be part of an organization with a mission that aligns perfectly with those passions and to work with a group of people so talented and dedicated to fulfilling that mission.
When you’re not at work, what can you often be found doing?
These days you will probably find me working on a project around the house or out in the yard when it warms up.
If you had to take one WFYI program with you to a desert island, what would it be and why?
That's a tough one to answer -- so much good stuff, on radio, TV, and on-demand. I’ll go with Rick Steves’ Europe. Our family has gotten a lot of joy traveling vicariously through that show over the past 20+ months.
