Each month, WFYI introduces you to a member of the station's team. This month, it's Adam Gross, whose work on radio allows us to bring you everything from fresh local music on Local Frequency and Small Studio Signal Boost to the quality of sound you come to WFYI for.
What does your work at WFYI usually entail?
I do a lot of different things at WFYI. Every weekday evening I'm the host for our radio programming, every week I edit and co-host Small Studio Signal Boost, and once a month I produce spots for our Local Frequency program, sharing local music on the radio in programming breaks. I also do a lot of production work for promotional spots, which usually entails me sitting behind the mixing desk to record the talent along with some script and vocal coaching.
What do you enjoy most about working at WFYI?
The thing I enjoy most about working at WFYI is that I get to bring our listeners awareness of the local art and music being made in our own backyards. I love it when I hear from someone that they found a new favorite song from a local artist that we played on WFYI.
When you’re not at work, what can you often be found doing?
When I'm not at work, I'm probably out walking my dog, playing music, kayaking (if the weather's right!) or hiking through one of Indiana's beautiful forests.
What program on WFYI are you interested in watching/listening to next?
It's so hard to choose one program! For news, I always look forward to 1A's Friday news roundup. I think it's a great way to get a quick, yet in-depth, glance at what happened in national and world news for the past week with, of course, an unbiased tone that's not sensationalized. Cultural Manifesto hits the mark every week with interesting in depth interviews with local connections.
