Tell us about your organization and who you are/what role you play there?
I'm Kristin Kohn, founder and owner of Silver in the City. Silver in the City is a retail jewelry and gift shop located on Mass Ave since 2000 and on Main Street in Carmel since 2015. The longevity of our business is in part due to community support, it is the residents and business neighbors in our community that supported Silver in the City in its earliest years and through our most challenging years, such as 2020.
In turn, we work to support our community through donations, and now, with our Silver Linings Fund at CICF which is dedicated to supporting efforts addressing racial disparity from within Central Indiana communities. We are only as strong as the communities in which we work, therefore, it is important for us to participate in supporting the greater Indianapolis community.
Why do you support WFYI?
I support WFYI because I believe in: balanced news reporting that serves the public; for all children to have access to quality educational programming; and for our community to have a media outlet through which to share local news and arts programming.
Which is your favorite WFYI program, and why?
I am a huge This American Life and Radiolab listener, but if I was stuck on a desert island with only one WFYI/NPR/PBS program it would have to be Story Corps. Hearing people share their own experiences and stories helps us to move outside our own selves and stay connected with the compassion for others that is needed to heal this world.
