What is your name, company, and title?
Crista Carlino, RecycleForce, Director of Development & Communications
What role does Recycle Force play in the community?
RecycleForce is an electronics recycling site that is now open to the public in Sherman Park. We are open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. We also serve justice-involved and formerly incarcerated people by employing them in our recycling facility, while providing training, industry-recognized credentials and wraparound services that support their reentry into our communities.
Why does Recycle Force support WFYI?
RecycleForce supports WFYI because we believe in the public accessing the best news and media in the city. We love being able to get our message and services out to the communities we serve, so they can use our services, many of which are free to the public! When we announced our Styrofoam recycling service, the very day our spot aired [on WFYI], we had cars lining up to drop off their Styrofoam!
What value does WFYI provide the community?
WFYI brings both national and local programming to viewers and listeners that is relevant and high-quality and unbiased. WFYI is effective in getting messages and news out quickly and to a variety of consumers in the market.
What’s your favorite way to listen to or consume WFYI?
I love listening on my drive to and from work and tuning into TV programming at home in the evenings. The national and local programs are always great. I love to read the articles that Jill Sheridan puts out. She’s all over Indy, and I find her stories to be informative and in-depth.
If you could recommend just one WFYI / NPR / PBS program, what would it be?
I’m a HUGE fan of Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.! He is a wonderful asset to the programming lineup, and his work digs into the ancestry and genealogy of some of America’s most famous artists and performers of our time. It lets the celebrities look into their own family histories but also gives us all a glimpse into American and world history too.
