The Christel DeHaan Family Foundation has awarded a $343,000 legacy gift to WFYI’s endowment to provide ongoing support for arts and culture programming. With this gift, we will honor the enduring legacy of Christel DeHaan’s arts philanthropy with naming recognition on our radio studio where we record Cultural Manifesto, Echoes of Indiana Avenue and other arts programs.
For more than 30 years, the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation has made a considerable impact on WFYI’s success, contributing nearly $1 million in foundation and personal support. This has helped us produce diverse, engaging and multi-platform arts and cultural programming and to carry powerful national programs for broadcast.
Christel DeHaan was an accomplished businesswoman, community leader and philanthropist. As co-founder of Resort Condominiums International (RCI), she was widely known for her contributions to the travel and tourism industry. When she sold RCI in 1996, she devoted her time, energy and financial resources to philanthropy. She founded Christel House, a public charity that helps children around the world break the cycle of poverty.
The Family Foundation supported her lifelong, cherished passion for the arts and a few other important causes. Thanks to Christel’s generosity, with the final Legacy Grants, the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation Board was privileged to oversee more than $133 million in grants over its lifespan to more than 700 organizations.
Christel's passion for life, for causes, for people and for the arts, music and nature was underscored by a deep commitment to excellence in all that she did. She made a difference as an employer, as a community leader and as a philanthropist.
