This Halloween, join WFYI for a series of chilling shows, podcasts and games for people of all age groups! We've collected some of our favorite dramas, documentaries and more to help you plan a creepy weekend powered by public media.

 

Kids:

Arthur's Happy Halloween
Arthur and the gang have a whole series of Halloween activities! You can play Arthur's Tricks and Treats, Tower of Cows, or even make masks of Arthur characters! PBS Kids also has a series of Halloween-themed episodes to watch if you fancy your aardvark adventures to have a creepy twist!

PBS Kids: Halloween Games
Enjoy a wide variety of Halloween-themed games online with your kids this Halloween! From dressup with Elmo and Abby to playing hide and seek with Elinor and friends, there's something for everyone! PBS also has a list of Halloween-themed arts and crafts projects for you and your kids to tackle too.

Lucy Worsley Investigates: The Witch Hunts
What started Britain's century of bloody witch hunts? Lucy Worsley uncovers the story of one supposed witch, whose case lit the fuse for the state-sanctioned killing of thousands, both in the UK and the American colonies.

Secrets of the Dead
Secrets of the Dead is part detective story, part true-life drama that unearths evidence from around the world, challenging prevailing ideas and throwing fresh light on unexplained events.

Bone Detectives (Saturday, 10 p.m.)
Paleontologist Tori Herridge, mortuary technician Carla Valentine and archaeologist Raksha Dave piece together life stories from ancient bones. Modern scientific techniques and supporting video animations combine with historical records and the opinions of experts to bring us tales of battles, misdemeanors, disease, tragedy and tragic accident.

Drama:

Magpie Murders (Sundays, 9 p.m.)
Lesley Manville and Tim McMullan star in the TV adaptation of Anthony Horowitz's bestselling novel about a dead mystery author, an incomplete manuscript and suspects galore in this beguiling series.

Miss Scarlet and The Duke (Sundays, 8 p.m.)
Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders) stars in this mystery as the headstrong, first-ever female detective in Victorian London. Join her as she teams up with Scotland Yard Detective Inspector William Wellington (aka The Duke) as they dive into the dangerous criminal underworld of one of Europe's oldest cities.

Arts and Culture:

Antiques Roadshow Halloween Special (Monday October 31, 9 p.m.)
Celebrate Halloween with thrilling and chilling finds, like a rag doll nicknamed Chucky, a nightmarish Leonora Carrington painting and an eye-catching "Bride of Frankenstein" pressbook. Which macabre and magnificent treasure is valued at $250,000-$350,000?

Nightmare Theatre
The Baron Mondo Von Doren (Mike Ensley) is a minor demon assigned to inflict misery upon mankind by way of bad movies. With his sidekicks — the masked wrestler El Sapo de Tempesto (Chip Chism) and pet werewolf Mittens (Lemmie Crews) — the Baron introduces old horror films in a humorous manner with little respect and a side of intriguing film history.

Making It Grow: Halloween Special 2022
On " Making It Grow” host Amanda McNulty from Clemson Extension along with Clemson Extension Master Gardener State Coordinator Agent Terasa Lott plus featured guests offer research-based information on a variety of gardening, agricultural and environmental topics.

Music:

Dia de los Muertos
"Dia de los Muertos" is a musical celebration of this much-anticipated and highly celebrated fiesta by people of Mexican heritage everywhere. Special guests include Latino rock greats, Los Lobos, the salsa-rap-reggae-funk of Ozomatli — both Los Angeles-based — and the all-female mariachi band Flor de Toloache from New York City.

All Songs Considered: A Halloween Mix
As we approach Halloween, NPR's Bob Boilen and Tom Huizenga are spinning up a collection of eerie but impactful music over on All Songs Considered. Featuring the music of Seán Barna, Phoebe Bridgers, Weyes Blood and more, travel from modern tunes all the way back into the 12th century.
