Celebrate Día del Niño with The Indianapolis Public Library and WFYI at Be My Neighbor Day

The Indianapolis Public Library is excited to partner with WFYI Public Media to celebrate Día del Niño at Be My Neighbor Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Library.

This free family event inspired by the PBS KIDS program Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood will be rich with activities geared towards early literacy learning and celebrating what it means to be a caring neighbor. Children and families will read, write, sing, talk, and play together. They will also have an opportunity to meet and take their photo with special guest, Daniel Tiger.

“The goal of the partnership between WFYI and the Library is to nurture learning environments and continue to serve families in the process,” said WFYI Vice President of Community Engagement Gail Thomas Strong. “We are excited to provide a day to the community for learning and growing as neighbors.”

The day will be filled with activities for young children, including a sensory hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., singing and dancing with Grammy-winning duo 123 Andrés at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., opportunities to send letters to first responders, English and Spanish story times, temporary tattoos and free books. Families are encouraged to bring new lip balm to donate to the children at Riley Hospital. Parking for this event will be available in the library parking garage on Pennsylvania Street along with street parking near Central Library. “Día del Niño at Be My Neighbor Day is a wonderful partnership between the Library and WFYI, honoring children and building literacy skills,” said Shael Weidenbach, area resource manager of youth services at The Library. “We are thrilled to welcome Spanish-speaking families and to be able to offer activities in their home language.”

This community celebration is made possible by The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund through a grant to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. This event is in partnership with WFYI and is supported by PNC Grow Up Great and Fred Rogers Productions. The Library is thankful for our community partner, Child Care Answers.
