Naptown Legends: Carl Perkins Pt. 2
August 19, 2022
Hear the second part of our tribute to the legendary Indianapolis jazz pianist Carl Perkins. Carl Perkins was a major force on the Avenue music scene during the late 1940s. In the early 50s, Perkins left Naptown for California and thrived in the West Coast cool jazz scene. Sadly, Perkins died of a drug overdose in 1958 at just 29 years old. He made a big impact during his short career, performing with jazz stars including Miles Davis, who listed Perkins as one of his favorite pianists.
