New License Requirements for Indiana Teachers
September 12, 2019
This spring, Indiana lawmakers added a new requirement for teachers obtaining or renewing their licenses. They must now commit to several hours of “career awareness training” through externships, among other methods.
The goal behind the unique law is to better educate students about the real world, and the kinds of jobs they might be working towards. But critics say it’s just one more hassle for teachers who already have a lot on their plate.
On this episode of All IN, host Matt Pelsor talks to Indiana Public Broadcasting reporters who are covering the new law and how it’s being implemented. We hear from educators about how they’re navigating the new requirements, and from a regional Chamber of Commerce that's been offering this kind of training for years, and now touts it as a solution for local teachers.
