The Indiana Department of Revenue is continuing to offer free federal and state filing to taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $62,000 or less.

As tax season begins, the Indiana Department of Revenue is providing taxpayers with advice.

Returns should be in the mail by April 18. People get a few extra days this year because Friday, April 15 is Emancipation Day, a public holiday in Washington D.C., followed by the weekend.

Indiana brought in about $21 million more than predicted in November, roughly 2 percent above target. Revenues were boosted by strong individual income tax collections, nearly $30 million better than projected.

The tax amnesty program, which allowed Hoosiers who owed back taxes to repay them without penalties, interest or fines, brought in $100 million in its two-month period.

Hoosiers who owe back taxes have only a few days left to take advantage of Indiana's 2015 tax amnesty program. The program, which began in mid-September, ends Monday.

Indiana officials hope public seminars on Tax Amnesty 2015 will increase participation and payment of back taxes.

Indiana collected about $6 million more in taxes last month than expected, putting the Hoosier State right on par with projections for the entire year.
