Community members will be able to go to the local health department to get training on how to administer naloxone and receive a free dose.

The General Assembly approved a bill Wednesday that aims to give more people access to the overdose intervention drug naloxone and protect them when they use it.

By mid-March, all officers will carry the opiate antidote naloxone in their squad cars and will be able to administer it when responding to a reported overdose.

Stores in Ohio and Indiana will now sell the drug over-the-counter. Walgreens has made a commitment to do the same in 35 states and the District of Columbia.
