Indiana will no longer be able to require monthly payments for one of its Medicaid programs after a 2020 approval was vacated by a federal judge.

In April, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration implemented a waitlist for services under an important Medicaid waiver in response to last year’s Medicaid shortfall. New waiver slots will open on July 1 — but there’s still some uncertainty around whether there will be enough slots to accommodate those on the waitlist.

Families of medically complex children say the state has thrown another “eleventh-hour curveball,” with less than two weeks before the state implements a major change to a Medicaid program.

Despite concerns about the implementation of a new Indiana Medicaid waiver program, state officials say the insurance companies in charge of the transition have met the readiness requirements. Medicaid members 60 years or older on the Aged and Disabled waiver will transition to a new service structure on July 1.

There’s just over a month left before several significant changes to the state’s Medicaid program go into effect, including changes to the Aged and Disabled waiver and the implementation of the Pathways for Aging program.
