Citizens Energy Group announced Monday the start of a multi-year project to replace four miles of natural gas pipes in Avondale Meadows, Martindale Brightwood and Far Eastside neighborhoods.

At least 14 bridge projects are scheduled for work during the 2024 construction season.

The Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant Program is providing a total of $3.3 billion to 132 communities – with $368,000 going to communities in Indiana. The measure is aimed to provide more direct access to job, education and other opportunities to these communities through infrastructure.

The 2024 construction season kicks off in Indianapolis when the city will spread $363 million in spending amongst roads, bridges, stormwater and trails.

The completion of a key interstate puzzle piece is in sight as the last section of I-69 in Marion and Johnson counties finishes construction this year.
