WFYI has partnered with America Amplified to answer questions about how to participate in the midterm election. Here are some of the top questions from Hoosiers we have been able to answer thus far.

Do you have a question we haven’t answered yet? Submit your question on the link on our “Elections Questions” page or this page or by texting “WFYI” to 855-670-1777.

Q: How can I confirm that I am still registered to vote?

A: You can confirm if you’re registered to vote and where your polling place is by visiting the Indiana voter portal at https://indianavoters.in.gov/.

Q:  How do I obtain an absentee ballot?

A:  You can learn more about mail-in (also called absentee) voting, including how to register and track your ballot, online at indianavoters.in.gov. Select “Vote by mail” and submit your request. The last day to request your absentee ballot in Indiana is Oct. 27. Absentee ballots must be returned by 6 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 8.

Q: When can I preview my ballot?

A:  You can view who's on your ballot by visiting indianavoters.in.gov  and selecting “Who’s on the ballot.”

Q: When can I vote early for the November midterm election?

A: Early voting is available starting Oct. 11, according to the state’s website. For information on locations and times, contact your county elections office.

Q: Do I have to show an ID to vote?

A: Hoosiers are required to show a government-issued ID to vote on Election Day. In most cases, an Indiana driver license, Indiana photo ID card, Military ID or U.S. passport is sufficient, according to the state’s website.

College students at an Indiana state school may use their state-issued student ID as long as it includes a photo, the name that conforms to the voter registration record, displays an expiration date that is current or expired after the last General Election (Nov. 3, 2020). Note: IDs from private Indiana colleges and universities may not be used.

Q:  Where do I find job descriptions for different elected offices?

A:  You can find out who is on your ballot at Vote 411. Indiana Public Broadcasting has some other resources that might help as well: https://ipbs.org/projects/executive-government/.

Q:  There are eight candidates on the ballot for Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township school board District 2. Is there a resource that compares their views on various school issues?

A:  Please check out our story about the candidates running for school board.

Q: I am in Franklin Township. Are there going to be any other places for early voting, other than the City-County building?

A: You can find early voting locations here: https://vote.indy.gov/early-voting/.  Additional early voting locations will open on Oct. 29-Nov. 6, including the Franklin Township Government Center.
