INDIANAPOLIS — Former Indiana Gov. Edgar Whitcomb announced Monday that he’s endorsed Republican candidate Eric Holcomb in the race to be the state’s next United States senator.

Whitcomb, 97, the oldest living former Hoosier governor, said in a statement that he supports Holcomb because of his “ impressive record of experience” and his “solutions-oriented approach.” Whitcomb served as governor from 1969-1973.

The former governor also said that few have the “caliber and integrity” that Holcomb possesses.

Holcomb is running in the GOP primary for the open Senate seat against U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-3rd District. Rep. Todd Young, R-9th District, is also considering a run.
