Demand for food assistance has increased this year and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is asking for volunteers to help keep up.
There are more than 200 volunteer shifts still unfilled for December.
Manager of Community Engagement Treva Burgess said the need doesn’t stop after the holidays.
“I think we all get those warm happy feelings when we go out and help those in need especially during the holiday season, but we are looking ahead as well," Burgess said. "We’re looking at January, February and we are going to be hurting if we don’t get more people signed up very soon.”
The organization needs 60 volunteers per day to staff a drive-thru pantry Tuesday through Thursday.
