Unofficial Election Results Show Strong Support For School Referendums, Despite COVID-19

Despite worries about COVID-19's impact on the economy, voters appear to be supporting funding proposals from school corporations across Indiana. Unofficial results show 16 out of the 18 school funding referendum measures passing.

It was the state's biggest group of school referendums at once since 2010, and as of Wednesday morning, it looks like one of the most successful.

So far, that includes Western Wayne Schools, Barr-Reeve and Lanesville community schools, all winning their proposals. Reports also indicate Bartholomew Consolidated Schools found success winning its proposal.

But final numbers have yet to be confirmed, because of absentee ballots and collecting information across county lines, like for South Bend and Benton schools.

Reports show voters rejected the state's second-ever safety referendum for New Albany-Floyd County schools, and in the small Crothersville school community in Jackson County, the referendum failed by 60 votes.

Official results are still delayed and could change based on ballots currently being processed.

Four CTE centers receive $700,000 apprenticeship grant

Four career and technical education centers around Indiana will split $700,000 to pilot local youth apprenticeship programs. The grant, which was awarded by Ascend Indiana, will fund apprenticeships in healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing and business.
