INDIANAPOLIS - Three people were shot inside Washington Square Mall Wednesday evening after a fight escalated into gunfire, according to police.
One of two men involved in a fight pulled out a handgun and began firing, police said, striking the other person involved and two people that have been described as innocent bystanders.
All three victims are reported in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, according to IMPD spokesman Rafael Diaz. The suspect in the shooting has not been apprehended and Diaz could not offer a good description because of conflicting information.
The shooting broke out at the Far Eastside mall around 6:30 p.m. Media outlets report it happened in a common area of the mall near the Target store and sent shoppers fleeing into nearby stores. Witnesses told local TV stations they heard at least 10 shots fired.
One of the victims was involved in the initial altercation. The two other victims, a male and female, were bystanders. Diaz could not confirm if they had a relationship with the victim or shooter. Everyone involved are adults.
