More than 3,000 backpacks are being delivered to youth organizations throughout Marion County this week.

It’s part of the 500 Festival Kids’ Day, which is virtual this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bob Bryant, president & CEO of the 500 Festival, said the backpacks are filled with Kids Day-themed items.

“It gives them a little bit of an element of what they might have been able to do at the event, certainly there’s activities and things they can do and also relevant stuff from notebooks and toothbrushes and things they can also use” Bryant said.

The backpacks are being delivered to about 40 youth-serving organizations, including multiple AYS After School Programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, community centers, neighborhood services, and local schools and churches.

An online interactive Kids’ Day map is also available that allows families to visit educational booths and follow along with videos.
