A school bus driver found a teenage boy who had been shot on Indianapolis’ east side Thursday morning. The teenager was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but died shortly afterward.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the bus driver noticed the child and immediately called 911. Officers responded to the scene at around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Breen Drive and Brentwood Avenue.

Children were on the driver's bus when the teenager was discovered, but IMPD said the students and the driver did not witness the shooting. Several students were released to their parents at the scene, and some were transported to school on another bus.

The teenager was a student at Arsenal Technical High School, according to a statement from the school. The school is offering crisis counseling services Thursday to students and staff.

“Our thoughts are with the student’s family, our staff and students as we all navigate this tragedy,” the statement reads.

No arrest has been made, and IMPD asks anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Ryan Clark at 317-327-3475 or by email at ryan.clark@indy.gov. Additionally, citizens can call the Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 to submit an anonymous tip.
